157th Foundation Day Dinner - Notes from Larry |

Dear Friends of RHKR Ontraio Association,
On behalf of the President and members of Royal Hong Kong Regiment (The Volunteers) Ontario Association, thank you for your continuous support of our Association.
We were honoured to have Commanding Officer L/Col Andrew Zdunich of Queen's York Rangers http://qyrang.ca/ and Mr Peter Kwok, Deputy Director - Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office of The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region http://www.hketo.ca/home/ as Honourable Guests for our 157th Anniversary of Foundation Day Dinner. Mr George McDonell, then Sergeant Major of The Royal Rifles of Canada, who had served to defend Hong Kong during WWII. And the members of Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association http://www.hkvca.ca/index.htm, together with RSM Queen's York Rangers, other members of QYR, friends and families of the Association, we had 68 persons in attendance for the dinner at Fort York Armoury of Toronto.

Last night, I fulfilled my duty as sentry for 2011 RHKR(V) Ontario Foundation Day Dinner. I worn my ipod ear plugs on one side only and people said my look resembled special agent. Felt flattered but actually I was listening to 'Four Seasons'. It was an rewarding task because a) I saved our guests' time by showing them the parking lot and briefed them the facilities of the venue e.g. washrooms and reception area, b) our guests were greeted with my welcome and charming smile, c) seeing my professional look made them feel respected and most important d) outdoor was much cooler than indoor with my association uniform.

It is not a short time for 157 years. This year, we will celebrate 157th anniversary of the founding of Royal Hong Kong Regiment. Our Foundation Day Dinner will be held on June 11, 2011 at the Fort York Armoury, Toronto. All of us are looking forward to meeting friends and members in this most important event of the year.
